Brisbane is a really cool city offering great weather when the rest of the country is cold but Australia has become so expensive so here are some things you can do for free to entertain yourself when there.
Brisbane is the capital of Queensland and has the 3rd biggest population in Australia. It is a global city since 2008 and has hosted many world events. Its built around the Brisbane river and got its name from a Scottish man, Sir Thomas Brisbane.
Brisbane has sub tropical climate.
Long hot summers and warm winters and when it hails, holy cow get out of the way.
Brisbane has great
museums and art galleries and if its surf your after, the sunshine coast is about one hour north or head one hour south to the Gold coast.
The city botanical gardens are right next to the CBD and are free and offer great views of the river and have a huge array of flowers. The gardens are open 24 hours a day with the pathways light at night.
The Museum of Brisbane is free………….
Check out Roma Street Parklands – the world’s largest subtropical garden in a city centre
Head down and do the Albert Street literary walk.
Treat your ears to a free
concert at the Customs House put on by the UQ School of Music – every Sunday
Check out Brisbane City Hall at the City Hall Visitor Experience Centre.
Brisbane has a wide selection of
festivals and markets depending on what time of the year you visit. All in all its a great city, great climate yet hot and sticky but I’m Irish. Anything beats the cold rain.
Go for a drive up to Mount Coot-tha and take in the amazing view overlooking the whole of Brisbane from the lookout
Brisbane’s nightlife has changed so much since the first time I visited in 1992 and each time I’ve returned its bigger and better with some of the best nightlife in the whole of Australia. For an update selection of places to go check out http://www.worldsbestbars.com/australia/brisbane.
And I really like this website also for finding Cafe’s which is the first thing I do when I arrive anywhere. http://www.mustdobrisbane.com/eat-drink/cafes.
Of course I would never recommend a chain coffee house. Never ever ever.
