Day 1 Sailing Croatia has finally arrived. I was chosen to be part of this crew and take part in a voyage that our captain did many years ago in Croatia then Yugoslavia and he would like to see the changes in his country. I am very lucky and grateful.
Opatija is outside the center of Rijeka, easily reached as the public transport system here is excellent and inexpensive in comparison to what I’m used to anyway.
We set sail from here early in the morning on this our 1st day of a month with strangers. We met for the first time last night in Rijeka. Lets see what happens 🙂 Our destination today is Cres and after 8 hours of stunning sailing in the bluest of waters the Adriatic and by motor we arrive in Cres, pronounced Stress, an oxymoron if ever there was one. Cres is so peaceful and the people are extremely friendly. I feel like I’ve stepped back in time and I have. Things run at a much slower pace here. Tourist boats arrive at set times however as we are on our own boat we don’t come with the rush and it’s so much nicer. My first interest is to find a local coffee shop. This is what I do when I arrive in a new place, go for a coffee.
We will spend the night here and tomorrow we leave for Osar. The captain has the itinerary of
which i have no interest. I’m here for as long as it takes, I’ve no agenda and I couldn’t care less where we go as for me Croatia is heaven and Ill be happy everywhere on water. Croatia is beautiful by land but by sea its one of the most beautiful places in the world and its still rustic. This is my 4th time to Croatia and I’ve been all over the mainland but this time I’ll be island hopping and sailing Croatia for the 1st time. Stay tuned for updates. For now its a nice glass of wine and a good nights sleep.
