Austin the coolest city in Texas

Austin austinA lot of trivia quizzes ask the question “what is the capital of Texas”? you would be surprised how many get it wrong.  Austin is the state capital and is also the 2nd largest state capital in the US.

Between 2000-2006 it was the 3rd fastest growing city in the US, prices in the city sky rocketed. The median house price was $185,906 in 2009, and it has increased every year since 2004.Austin In the late 1800’s Austin also became known as the City of the “Violet Crown” for the wintertime violet glow of color across the hills just after sunset.  Even today, many businesses use the term “violet crown” in their name. “Keep Austin Weird” has been a local motto for years and featured on bumper stickers and t-shirts. austinThis motto has not only been used in promoting  the eccentricity and diversity, but is also meant to bolster support of local independent businesses. The current official slogan promotes Austin as “The Live Music Capital of the World”. A reference to the many musicians and live music venues within the area.

  • Ranks eighth among metropolitan areas in the United States for bachelor’s degree. Over 43% of residents age 25 and over hold a bachelor’s degree and 16% hold a graduate degree.
  • Has a strong theater culture, with dozens of itinerant and resident companies producing a variety of work.
  • Has a humid subtropical climate.  characterized by hot summers and mild winters. Austin is usually at least partially sunny, receiving nearly 2650 hours, or 60.3% of the possible total, of bright sunshine per year.
  • Is located in central Texas.
  • Many support the athletic programs of the University of Texas at Austin known as the Texas Longhorns.
  • Austin is known as a “clean air city” for the city’s stringent no-smoking ordinances that apply to all public places and buildings, including restaurants and bars.
  • Nightlife & Entertainment is centered around 6th street.  In my opinion if your in your twenties you will love 6th street.  Full of bars, restaurants and music venues it get wild and busy at night.  In the day time however it is cool to walk around 6th street.  Its beautiful and historic and has great restaurants open by day also. In general for an older crowd Id recommend checking out other neighborhoods at night.  P For great deals check out www.scoutmob.com everything from restaurants etc
