Nuremberg Germany Outstanding beer

Nuremberg

Nuremberg is a city in the German state of Bavaria, in the administrative region of Middle Franconia.

Situated on the Pegnitz river and the Rhine–Main–Danube Canal 170 kilometers north of Munich.

Germany is without a doubt the most famous country for Christmas markets and Nuremberg is the most famous of all those for Christmas Markets.

nuernberg

More than 2 million people a year visit Neurenburg also called the “Little Town from Wood and Cloth” at the main market square in Advent. Inspectors are on hand to ensure nothing so gaudy as a plastic garland or a piece of piped muzak creeps in and this is taken very seriously indeed.  Instead it is full of traditional fare from spicy gingerbread and fruit cakes to tree decorations, candles, toys, arts and crafts. Nothing is left to chance.  www.christkindlesmarkt.de

Getting to Nuremberg

I traveled to Nuremberg from Dublin so I had to fly to Munich and take a train.  Trains in Europe are fantastic and Germany’s are reliable its fantastic.  The trains in Germany are not as cheap as other countries.  In fact by German standards they are expensive.

The standard of living is high in Germany

and the cost is low unless you’re in a major city like Munich, Berlin or Hamburg where in recent years rents have gone very high.  Food is subsidized by the government making its very good value.  I love Christmas markets and when I heard that this was the creme de la creme I had to see for myself. Walking around in Germany’s ultra organized towns and markets is pure joy to me. Sipping Gluvine the hot spiced red wine.  Sausage for sale everywhere served with lovely mustard.  There is no better place to get you in the Christmas spirit than this beautiful city.

Where to eat

I suggest the Wanderer Bieramt. Great food, the bartender speaks English is you need and if you like beer try “Smokey George”. To find it Just go towards the big tower on the hill that is visible from the center. http://www.cafe-wanderer.de/

Wurstdurst, very popular in Germany and will fill you up while you go explore or beer sampling.

Schankwirtschaft Schanzenbrau, great beer garden and food. The beer is excellent.
